Tech Events in Leeds: Digital Dates for your Virtual Calendar
With the city developing at an impressive pace, the digital landscape in Leeds continues to flourish. As a full-service digital agency, we’re always on the lookout for industry events and interesting meet-ups. So here are some of the best digital events in Leeds taking place before the end of January.
Code and Coffee – Every Wednesday
Code and Coffee offers developers the opportunity to start the morning surrounded by like-minded people at an informal get-together with a focus on crafting code. Simply turn up, get into pairs and learn something new. Things tend to kick off around 8am, but don’t worry about not feeling awake – the event takes place at La Bottega Milanese, so great coffee is only a few steps away.
WordPress Leeds – 24th January
WordPress Leeds is a local user group set up to promote WordPress and blogging events in West Yorkshire. Taking place at Futurelabs, their events are aimed at bloggers, journalists, designers, developers and – quite frankly – anyone with a passing interest in digital publishing. This month’s event is content focused, with a special talk from entrepreneur Caroline Tower all about how you can get started in the world of blogging.
Digital Innovation Event – 26th January
Hosted by Leeds Beckett University, the Digital Innovation Event will explore how digital innovation can enhance your business. Featuring guest speakers from Microsoft and local SME businesses currently working with the university, you’ll gain a real insight into all the latest technology and releases. You’ll also get to see examples of digital technology in action, talk to people engaged in transformational projects and find out what government funding is available.
Hey! – 26th January
Created by technological consultant agency Stac, the seminal Hey! events have become somewhat of a staple of the Leeds digital scene, with regular talks on business, design and technology. Held at the fabulous Belgrave Music Hall, this month’s event includes talks on how to be a successful designer, staying mindful in the face of creativity and the many challenges faced by front-end developers. Oh, and there are free drinks and goodie bags too – bonus!
MetaMind: Conversational Programming – 26th January
Leeds Sharp is a code club for developers who use Microsoft technologies – they host a meeting on the last Thursday of every month, with all skill levels welcome. Their upcoming MetaMind event examines how metaprogramming, together with machine learning, could fundamentally change the nature of a software developer’s role. Part philosophical discussion and part exploration through code, it’s all set to be a fascinating night.
Founders Friday – 27th January
Founders Friday is Futurelab’s brand new tech, creative and digital networking event, held on the last Friday of every month. An informal meet up for Leeds-based business owners and tech industry enthusiasts, you’ll hear from interesting speakers and meet like-minded people. Free alcohol and other refreshments are provided from 5:30pm onwards, plus they’ve partnered up with Leeds Digital Drinks to continue the party afterwards at one of Leeds’ many fantastic bars.
