AWS Meetup #2 Roundup
Following the success of August’s first ever AWS Leeds meetup, last week we were incredibly happy to run our second.
The second Amazon Web Services meetup began with a bit of conversation over some food and beer before sitting down to an excellent presentation from Josh Nesbitt of Stac who spoke about Foreman Process Manager as well as Amazon’s very own technical evangelist, Ian Massingham who did an engaging ‘Reddit-esque’ AMA.
Josh gave us some good insight into Foreman and after a basic development history, he explained how to get set up and configured. After a bit of a demonstration, he moved onto how he used Foreman with the National Health Service’s ‘NHSx’ project. Check out his presentation below.
Ian Massingham from Amazon Web Services was up next with an in-depth AMA. He went through everything from how billion dollar markets for virtual goods use AWS to manage the markets, AWS business support times, Docker on Elastic Beanstalk and much more. Some examples were how CCP Games use Amazon AppStream with their EVE Online Character Generator. You may find relevant videos for these discussions at the end of this post
If you’re interested in attending the next meetup, the third AWS Leeds Meetup will be on the 20th of November and as we’re getting towards Christmas, the topic will be SCALE. We’ve got Wes from Reconnix about how they scale their AWS usage to support music launchers without EC2 and David from Amplience discussing EC2 autoscaling and ELB. And finally we’ve got Ian from AWS giving us a recap of what happened at re:Invent 2014, for those that didn’t manage to make it to Las Vegas.
