Parallax are proud to announce the launch of another exciting development for our client Town Centre Car Parks.
We’ve developed a prebooking system for all First Direct Arena events at the Merrion Centre car park, one of the official arena car parks. The First Direct Arena has proved to be a huge success in Leeds, with future performances from Eric Clapton, Miley Cyrus and Elbow. As a digital agency, we’re always looking at ways how we can help our clients and using innovative technology is something that we love.
Busy arena event nights
We work closely with TCCP on all of their online activities, from digital marketing and SEO to ongoing website maintenance and strategy. Following the introduction of their ANPR technology last year, a number plate recognising system allowing easy access to and from the car park, there was an opportunity to create a better experience for visitors parking at the Merrion Centre/First Direct Arena car park on event nights.
With Arena events attracting up to 15,000 people at a time, the car park often gets incredibly busy, with customers often having to queue for entry and when using pay stations at the end of the night. This provided us with the idea of introducing prebooking.

So how does it work? It’s simple.
Customers choose their event online from the TCCP website, they then enter their card details and vehicle registration number. Upon receiving a confirmation email, customers then drive up to the Merrion Centre car park where they receive a prepaid ticket at the barrier after their number plate is automatically read by a camera. Upon leaving the car park, visitors can skip the queues at the pay stations and simply pop their prepaid ticket into the barrier and drive straight out.
By connecting the online ordering system with TCCP’s complex ANPR technology, we’ve managed to create the ideal prebooking solution, reducing wait times for customers and vastly improving their overall experience.
